Sam Parham of Garden Court Chambers was invited to speak at the prestigious Annual Grange Conference, the Medico-Legal Event of the Year for Mental Health Professionals, on the topic of testing expert psychiatric evidence.
The event was attended by a large group of consultant psychiatrists and psychologists. Other speakers included Lord Toulson, former Justice of the Supreme Court, and HHJ Bayliss QC of Leeds Crown Court.
Sam gave a practical guide to the expectations that lawyers have of expert witnesses and spoke about the methods that barristers use to cross-examine mental health professionals.
Sam discussed the fitness to plead process in criminal courts and the impact that high quality psychiatric evidence can have on the presentation of defence cases.
