The Education (Student Fees, Awards and Support) (Amendment) Regulations 2016
In July 2015 the Supreme Court held that rules which barred certain young migrants who had lived in the UK for most of their lives, been educated here and were treated throughout as members of UK society, from accessing student loans resulted in unjustified discrimination contrary to Article 1, Protocol 1 and Article 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
On 16 May 2016, the Education (Student Fees, Awards and Support) (Amendment) Regulations 2016 were laid before Parliament in order to remedy the situation. The amendments introduced by the regulations will come into force on 6 June 2016.
