A woman who was forced to perform a sex act on a police officer or face arrest has accepted a settlement exceeding £23,000.
The civil claim against Sergeant David Gibson of Merseyside Police, who had been convicted of misconduct in public office earlier this year, was settled after lengthy negotiations. The money will hopefully go some way in repairing the harm caused by this grave abuse of state power.
The claimant, whose identity cannot be disclosed for legal reasons, was represented in the civil proceedings by Tom Stoate of Garden Court’s Claims Against the Police and Public Authorities Team. Tom was instructed in the case Jonathan Smallwood of Broudie Jackson Canter.
