Last December, the Senior Coroner for Surrey heard arguments presented by Brenda Campbell QC supporting an application made by KRW LAW LLP to resume the inquest into The Guildford Pub Bombings 1974, which was suspended following the conviction of The Guildford Four.
In addition to those represented by Garden Court Chambers last December, there were representatives on behalf of family members of The Guildford Four (wrongfully convicted of the bombings) and the Surrey Police, the London Metropolitan Police and the MOD.
The Senior Coroner adjourned the hearing to consider these arguments as to whether he had jurisdiction, power and reason to resume the inquest.
Today the Senior Coroner ruled that the inquest would be resumed. He will direct a Pre-Inquest Review Hearing later this year to deal with matters of disclosure, scope and process.
Brenda Campbell QC and KRW welcome the ruling on behalf of Ann Hamilton and Yvone Tagg who welcome the opportunity for an effective investigation into The Guildford Pub Bombings 1974.
This case has been reported extensively in the media including the BBC and the Guardian.
Brenda Campbell is a member of the Garden Court Chambers Inquests & Inquiries Team, the Civil Liberties & Human Rights Team and the Crime Team.
