A female defendant was unanimously acquitted on 24 August 2016 after she stabbed her partner through the chest. The knife wounded his heart and lung causing life-threatening injuries from which he nearly died.
He alleged that she attacked him with a knife in a jealous rage. She maintained that she acted in self-defence when he beat and then strangled her after a number of years of domestic violence. The complainant denied that he had ever been violent towards her and charges against him had never been pursued.
The defendant was represented by Lucie Wibberley of the Garden Court Chambers Crime Team, instructed by Lindsey Blizard of Needham Poulier.
