Tommy Seagull, Maaha Elahi, Harry Harris and Josephine Fathers have joined Chambers as full members and have already started developing multi-disciplinary practices across the full span of Chambers’ areas of law.
Tommy Seagull (Year of Call: 2018)
Tommy is developing a broad practice in criminal defence, including related areas of public law and human rights. He has an interest in immigration-related offences and cases involving modern slavery and human trafficking.
As a Kalisher Scholar, he spent time in Florida assisting on death penalty cases at an Amicus-affiliated public defender office. He previously worked at a public inquiry and co-founded 'I Too Am Human', a campaign to tackle negative perceptions of refugees, by telling the stories of those he met at refugee camps in Calais and Dunkirk. He has also represented parents appealing against their child’s permanent school exclusion and interned at the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Geneva. He recently won the Criminal Bar Association’s Chair’s Essay Award for his essay on the impact of the Lammy Report on the sentencing process.
Maaha Elahi (Year of Call: 2019)
Maaha joined Garden Court Chambers as a pupil in October 2022 under the supervision of Sonali Naik KC (first six) and Tom Wainwright (second six). She hopes to develop a broad practice in public law, community care, immigration and housing law.
Maaha previously represented children and young people in prison at the Howard League. She also worked as a Paralegal in the Infected Blood Inquiry. Maaha has volunteered as a Researcher for notable organisations, such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Redress and Human Dignity Trust. Maaha volunteers as a Legal Supervisor at the Islamophobia Response Unit. She successfully represented appellants in the Social Security Tribunal as a Free Representation Unit volunteer.
Harry Harris (Year of Call: 2021)
Harry joined Garden Court as a pupil in October 2022 under the supervision of Stephen Simblet KC. Harry looks to develop a practice in actions against the police and state, inquests and inquiries, protest rights and immigration and asylum.
Prior to pupillage, Harry was working as an immigration caseworker for Refugee Legal Support (RLS) in London and Athens. Harry spent 18 months as a paralegal at Bindmans LLP, in the Actions Against the Police and State team. She was also a research assistant at SOAS University, and an intern in the Abuses in Counter Terror team at Reprieve. She spent two years in Athens, where she provided voluntary legal support and interpretation services to displaced people.
Josephine Fathers (Year of Call: 2022)
Josephine joined Garden Court as a pupil in October 2022 under the supervision of Amanda Weston KC (first six) and Alex Taylor-Camara (second six). She plans to build a broad public law and civil liberties practice specialising in human rights, immigration and asylum.
Josephine previously worked as a research assistant to a leading KC in human rights and civil liberties both domestically and internationally, where she worked on judicial reviews, civil claims, inquests and inquiries and the UN special procedures. She has previously worked in policy, advocacy and project management with a number of international human rights organisations including the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales and REDRESS.
