Garden Court Special Fund awards £12,000 in short-term funding to organisations working to defend civil liberties, human rights and social justice

Garden Court’s Special Fund is a unique source of funding within the legal profession. Every member of chambers contributes to the fund financially, in keeping with the long-standing progressive ethos of Garden Court Chambers.

Over the last 30 years, the Special Fund has donated in excess of £1.5 million to organisations undertaking legal campaigning or charitable work in defence of civil liberties, human rights and social justice.

We are delighted to announce that we have recently provided short-term support to 5 organisations. Each beneficiary has received a payment of between £1,000 and £3,000, amounting to a total of £12,000 for the following:

Article 1
Article 1 is a charity that was funded to support Sudanese refugees to build meaningful lives in the UK. 

Centre for Criminal Appeals
The Centre for Criminal Appeals is a law charity that fights miscarriages of justice and demands reform.

FORWARD UK
FORWARD is a leading African diaspora women's campaign and support organisation committed TO safeguarding the rights of African girls and women.

Hope for Justice
Hope for Justice is a global non-profit organisation which aims to bring an end to human trafficking and modern slavery by preventing exploitation, rescuing victims, restoring lives, and reforming society.

Yardstick Films
Yardstick Films is a new independent production company based in the UK and Germany. They have been granted short-term funding for a film called 'Keenie Meenie' about the role of British mercenaries in Sri Lanka's civil war.

In your application for funding, please tell us about your organisation, set out in detail how the money will be spent and enclose your most recent Annual Report or statement of accounts.
