We are delighted to announce that John Beckley, a former member of chambers, has been appointed as a Circuit Judge.
The King has appointed John Beckley to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Alex Chalk KC MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the South Eastern Circuit, based at the Court of Protection with effect from 9 October 2023.
John joined Garden Court as a pupil in 2003, got tenancy in 2004, was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2015 and a full-time District Judge in 2018.
When in practice, he was praised and widely endorsed by solicitors for his effective representation of vulnerable and distressed clients. John was a member of the Housing, Civil Liberties and Public Law Teams at Garden Court Chambers.
Liz Davies said “John has been a compassionate, intelligent and respected District Judge since 2018. Garden court is delighted that he has now been appointed a Circuit Judge and we know that he will continue to display those qualities."
